Teachers Pay Teachers Hat

What have I been doing this weekend? I have been making a few things to sell on my Teachers Pay Teachers store.

First I made this:

It follows my behavior system in the classroom.  I have a large one hanging on the wall.  This could be for individual use for a student that really needs help monitoring their behavior.

Then I made this:

A cute and simple sign for labeling where kids turn in their classwork.

I made some other stuff too, but I haven't uploaded it yet because TPT wont let you until their big weekend sale is over.

Girl Scout Mom Hat

Yesterday I wore my Girl Scout Mother Hat.

My daughter has been a Girl Scout for almost 8 years now.  She loves it and it has given her opportunities to things I only dreamed of as a kid.

This week we finished up on her "take action" project with her Girl Scout Friends.

We spent months planning a Carnival for some local migrant workers' children.

It originally was a 3 day thing at multiple sites.  But we were told that was to ambitious for our girls and backed it off two 1 day.

So yesterday we went and did the little carnival for about 30 kids.It was wonderful.  The weather was over 100 degrees, but we were in the shade and stayed hydrated.  Everyone had a great time!

Now the next step is their Silver Award.  My daughter has her project all planed and I am very proud of her and her decisions.

Crafty Hat

So yesturday I worked on my chair pockets.  I found the idea on Pinterest.

Here is my attempt.  I have made 9 so far. I used Tulip Spray Fabric Paint.  I got 2 bottles, but I don't think that is enough to finish the project.  My only fear, is that I will have chairs that wont work with these pockets.

R.A.F.T Hat

Today I went to one of my favorite teacher places of all time!

I had to stop myself from shopping around and buying stuff for my classroom that I don't have room for.

Instead I was focused and made my 32 copies of "My Spelling Dictionary" for my students.
It took me over an hour to bind them all.  But I think it will be worth in.  In the end between copies and paper They cost me over $70 to make.  I think next time I will research more on how to make the copies cheaper.

Reading Teacher Hat

I spent most of yesterday knee deep in Houghton Mifflin 2003 Reading California.

Why did I spend most of the day doing this? Because school is starting in 2 1/2 weeks and I don't have a set of teacher's manuals yet.  So I spent most of the day searching online for pacing guides, unit organizers, and supplemental materials.

I managed to find everything I needed to get my yearly pacing guide finished for ELA.  I just need to get my hot little hands on those teacher manuals to make sure that what I plan or doing is correct.

Avon Hat

Tonight I wear my Avon hat to tell you about some amazing Avon products that me and my family enjoy.

Advanced Techniques Frizz Control Lotus Shield Shampoo.  I love this stuff!  I have fine hair that is always frizzy.  Not with this stuff! My hair lays flat but still has life and body. I also use the Advanced Techniques Frizz Control Lotus Shield Conditioner.  They make a great couple.

Naturals Kids Body Wash & Bubble Bath. My kids love this stuff!  It is tear free so the don't have to worry about it stinging their eyes.  Plus all the different fruity scents make it more fun.  Even my 12 year old loves using this stuff.

Naturals Kids Shampoo & Conditioner in one.  My kids love this stuff too.  The favorite around here is the coconut.

Skin So Soft Bug Guard Plus IR3535 SPF 30 Gentle Breeze Lotion.  This stiff has worked wonders for us all this summer.  Between YMCA summer camp, Girl Scout Camp, Boy Scout Camp, summer walks and outings we have been kept free of bug bites and sun burns.  I don't plan on using any other sunscreen ever!

You can find out more about these amazing Avon products and more at www.youravon.com/teranewman.

Got nothing done hat

Yesterday I went to my classroom and I feel like I got nothing done.  But in all reality I did get somethings done.  Next week I will need to get in there and really knock everything out so I am done before August 17th our first teacher training day.

I got my new tables in the room.  I was really excited to walk in and see the desks gone and the tables right where I wanted them even.  So I spent several hours cleaning them and marking off the tables, placing the name tags and student numbers.

Then I went and finished this student work board I started.  I now has a tittle "Frogtastic Work" and clothes pins on each spot to easily hang student work.

I also got my behavior board ready with 30 little numbered froggies and my brownie points board ready with magnetic brownies. And I cleaned my white board.

But I couldnt help it that when I left it felt like I got nothing done.

Cooking Hat

Yesterday & today I am wearing my cooking hat.  Since I will be working over an hour away from home and in the middle of a big city, I have to plan my lunches.

SO I am cooking as many as I can and freezing them.

Yesterday I made this.

I also made zucchini with tomato sauce. I don't have a photo of that.

Today I am making this.
Stuffed Breakfast Bubble Biscuits

 And some mini potatoes.

2nd grade teacher hat

Today I got so much done in my classroom.  I am sore and tired, but I am happy with all I got done.

I have this really tall bookshelf, I covered it with some pretty fabric so that you cant see all the containers on the shelf.

I sorted through all my books and organized them by topic, and put the rest in the student bookshelf.  Eventually I will switch out all the baskets for all green, but that is not high on my priority list right now.

I hung up my classroom rules chart, behavior chart, birthday chart & alphabet.

I hung up my classroom jobs poster, inspirational quote, and door sign.

I hung up my Social Studies & Science BB with topics we are starting the year with.

I hung up my brownie points pan, my finger system & my calendar buddy chart.

I hung up my student work BB.  I just need a catchy title.

I organized my student desks, and then found out that there are 5 tables available so I will be getting those instead.

I covered the side of my desk that had a HUGE hole in it. Really most of the side had been cut out! So now it looks pretty and matches the cover on the bookshelf.

Now I am tired and ready to go to bed!

Laundry Hat

Today was laundry day!

I spent today doing laundry!  I did my clothes, hubbies clothes, my daughter's clothes & my son's clothes.

Plus it was all put away and put in the closets and drawers.

HOW EXCITING!

But I do have a sense of accomplishment because laundry is something I hate to do.

Blog Hopper Hat

I spent most of yesterday sitting online looking at all the fabulous ideas over at 4th Grade Frolics Monday Made-It's Linking Party.

There were over 200 different teacher bloggers who posted things they made this week.

I also went and bought myself a new hot glue gun and some fabric to cover my teacher desk with.

And I watched the opening ceremony of the Olympics with my kids.

Car Hat

Today was a car day. I got 2 new tires for my car.

I love my PT Cruiser.  I have had it for 6 years.  It is one of my favorite cars.  And it got smogged and passed even!  So now my car is all set for my new job too.

I also spent some time today with my daughter's Girl Scout Troop.  We are working on the girl's take action project before their Silver Award.  We are planing a carnival for migrant workers a few towns away.  It will be a lot of fun for everyone involved.

Unpackin Fool Hat

So today I got to trek all my stuff and unpack it all in my new classroom!

See all my junk!  That back hiding in all the stuff is my daughter trying to find a place for all the children's books I have.

See more stuff that doesnt have a home.  I have 4 random chairs in my classroom.  I don't know why they are there.  They are all too large for my students I think.

This file cabinet is not mine.  It was moved into my room for the summer from the 3rd grade classroom during summer school because she didn't have room for it.  So I guess I have to wait till she comes back in August to move it back into 3rd grade again.

Oh and my whiteboard is not magnetic!  So I have to come up with other ideas now for some stuff.  Why do I always get whiteboards that are not magnetic!

After these photos were taken I got all kinds of things moved around with my daughters help.  The room still needs A LOT of work.  But it is starting to feel like home away form home.  Once I am all done I will post after photos.

Packin Fool Hat

My hubby the packing KING would be proud.  Today I packed up all my "personal teaching stuff" and put it in my car and our truck.  Amazingly we only have a few things that need a second trip.

I work about a 1 hour drive from my house if there isn't any tragic in the morning.  SOOO than means everything must go over to the new classroom.  I wont be able to bringing thinks over during the school year. So I have boxes, crates, tubs and more to trek on over tomorrow.

I hope I don't scare them with all my stuff. Hopefully tomorrow I will have some photos of my room room for "before" shots.  I still wont have desks for a few weeks! (yikes school starts in 4 weeks)

2nd Grade Teacher Hat

Today begins the return of my 2nd grade teacher hat.

Today I went to fill out all the paperwork for my new job as a 2nd grade teacher at a charter school in Oakland, CA.

I am really excited about this new "hat" of mine.  I left classroom teaching 6 years ago to open TPCS.  Well now that it has closed God has opened another door for me.

Teaching 2nd grade is kinda like going back home.  I student taught in 2nd grade for 1 semester.  And my first classroom was teaching 2nd grade.  I did that for 3 years.

Right now I am neck deep in teacher manuals and lesson planning.

I had hoped to post some pictures of my classroom, but my phone died this morning.  So it will have to wait until Wednesday. But I will say this, my classroom is SMALL 28ft x 18ft.  So I don't quite know how I am even going to fit my stuff and 30 kids.  Wish me luck with that!

One Hot Hat

The weather here this weekend is HOT.  We didn't do much yesterday because of the heat.   We stayed home and watches movies.  We watched "City of Ember" that was really good I enjoyed it and so did the kids. Once that was over my son decided he wanted to watch Superman.  So we pulled that out and watched that while we ate our Subway sandwiches.  It was just too hot to cook.

Frustrated daughter hat.

Today I wear the frustrated daughter hat. Why am I frustrated? Because my mother has moved in with me and has taken it upon her self to AGAIN go through my things.  Today she cleaned out my kitchen appliance cabinet (you know where you keep the waffle iron and the ice tea maker and the blender).  That means she decided that some of my stuff was no good. So I spent the afternoon putting it all back in the cupboard. At least this time I got to it all before she threw it in the trash. So I am a little frustrated.

Cleaning Lady Hat

Today I felt like I needed a maids costume or something.  It is clean up time and I need to clean out all of my personal stuff at TPCS and clean up the facility for the new tenants.  Today was spent cleaning out the last of 3 classrooms and taking what I want for me personally and what I will be using in my new classroom.

It is hard seeing the walls bare and the classrooms empty like it was 6 years ago when we began the journey of TPCS for the Lord.  But he has said it is time for me to move on.  I know now why.  And I accept that it is what He wants.

I know this new job will bring new challenges and I truly hope I am happy teaching again.

Singing Hat & saying goodbye to my Boss Lady Hat

This evening I got to wear my singing hat.  I LOVE to sing.  I have the privileged to sing at my church every Wednesday night for worship practice.  And during the school year I sing with the Santa Clara Chorale.  Again this is a hat I don' t ever want to take off.

Plus today was my official last day as a boss lady. Tomorrow I get to be the cleaning lady and the packing lady to clean up the mess and the remaining classroom at TPCS.

But on Monday I get to sign the contract for my new adventure!  Teaching 2nd grade again after 7 years since I saw a 2nd grade classroom.  I am so excited and ready to get my room ready and be neck deep in 2nd grade curriculum.

One door closes and another one opens.

Wife Hat

Today I wear the wife hat. Today that wonderful hubby of mine begins a journey of sorts.  And I am spending all my time in between working praying for him.  This is one hat I don't ever want to take off.

Boss Lady Hat

The Boss lady Hat is one I will be taking off very soon.  For the last 6 years I have been the co-founder and director of Tomorrow's Promise Christian School in Santa Clara, CA.  After serving over 150 children ages 2-6 years old we are closing as of this Wednesday.

On Wednesday evening we will close our doors forever.  Then begins the task of cleaning out the building and selling off items I hand picked for each classroom and each age group and each teacher over the last 6 years. I will miss it tremendously.  God gave me a beautiful gift to teach all theses families and place the seed of Jesus Christ into so many children.

But now it is time to close this door and open another.

Mommy Hat Day

Today I took the kids to the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum in San Jose.

Very cool place.  We saw 4 real mummies and several animal mummies.  They also have a beautiful garden and a model Egyptian Home in the garden.  We all had a great time. I hope to go back there without the kids to see things a little better.  They wanted to look at EVERYTHING in super speed, so we didn't really LOOK at the stuff like I wanted.  But I know better with a 12 year old and an 8 year old. I got some cute pics when they decided to cooperate for the camera.  The lighting inside the museum was terrible for a camera phone.  And we kept taking them when no one was looking hoping we wouldn't get in trouble.
Overall it was a good Mommy Hat Day.

Crafty Classroom Hat

One of the things that helped me decide to do this is looking at all the wonderful blogs out there with wonderful ideas for things to do in the classroom to personalize the space and save money.

Pinterest has been a huge resource for finding those blogs and ideas.

One of those inspirations is:
Classroom DIY

I have found all kinds of ideas over there.  And so far this one is one of my favorites. Classroom DIY: DIY Pencil Pouches: Pencil pouches don't always hold up well throughout the year in student binders, but here is an option that is inexpensive if you need to replace them often.

Here is there photo of this great idea!

Well I spent this week making my own version.  It is time consuming, but something you can do while watching TV with the kids.  I tried to get my daughter involved, but she wouldn't even finish one.  SO here is my version of the DIY pencil pouch.

I made 34 of them!  I might need to make 34 more depending on how I end up using them.

I hope you enjoy!

Here is my attempt at Blogging.  I am a 2nd grade teacher in the SF Bay Area.  I have been in education for almost 20 years.

This Blog is called "Too Many Hats" because I wear too many hats!  Christian woman, wife, mother, teacher, friend, daughter, musician and a few others I can't think of right now. So this blog will be about all those different hats and how I juggle them all.
